Super Falcons defender Michelle Alozie shortlisted for FIFPRO women's world XI

  • Super Falcons defender Michelle Alozie is the sole Nigerian player on the 26-woman shortlist for the 2025 FIFPRO Women's World XI.
  • Her nomination follows a year of standout performances, central to the Super Falcons' 10th WAFCON crown.

Super Falcons defender Michelle Alozie has secured a prestigious place on the shortlist for the FIFPRO Women’s World XI, though her star teammates, Rasheedat Ajibade, Chiamaka Nnadozie, and Esther Okoronkwo, were surprisingly omitted.

Alozie, who plays her club football for Houston Dash, was a key figure in Nigeria’s triumphant campaign to clinch a record 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title earlier in the year.

The nomination is a major individual achievement for the 28-year-old who was also named in the delayed 2024 WAFCON's team of the tournament as a right-back.

Meanwhile, who Ajibade was celebrated as the Player of the Tournament at the WAFCON and Nnadozie who claimed the Golden Gloves award and was ranked fourth in the 2025 Ballon d’Or goalkeepers’ category failed to make the nominations list.

Alozie features among eight elite defenders nominated for the global all-star lineup. She joins an illustrious list that includes England's Millie Bright, Lucy Bronze, Alex Greenwood, and Leah Williamson, as well as Spanish stars Ona Batlle and Olga Carmona, and Australia’s Ellie Carpenter.

The FIFPRO Women’s World XI is unique as it is voted for exclusively by professional footballers worldwide, with more than 25,000 players casting their ballots each year.

The final team will consist of one goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders, and three forwards, with the final 11th spot awarded to the outfield player with the next highest number of votes, regardless of position.

The final FIFPRO Women’s World 11 is expected to be revealed on Monday, 3 November.

The d defender is currently with the Nigerian team as they prepare for their WAFCON qualifier second leg against the Amazons of the Benin Republic.
